The standard way

This is the typical way how to install a theme downloaded from Presta Theme Maker. Go to your back office, go to Preferences > Themes > click on the button "Add new theme" and upload your theme ZIP. In same cases you might bump on problems in Prestashop with setting the left/right columns or configuring the modules. Bildschirmfoto 2015-02-15 um 15.40.10

The "overwrite" way

However all settings seem to work fine with the default theme. So the alternative way to install a new theme is to apply all the colors and backgrounds directly on the default theme. This way works only for themes downloaded from Presta Theme Maker, version 1.6.0.X All you need to do is to unzip the downloaded ZIP and find these files:

/themes/your_theme/header.tpl
/themes/your_theme/css/custommaker.css
/themes/your_theme/css/customuser.css
/themes/your_theme/css/ptmfix.css
/themes/your_theme/images/design (some Theme Maker themes don't contain this folder)

And then rewrite these files within the default theme:
/your_eshop/themes/default-bootstrap/header.tpl
/your_eshop/themes/default-bootstrap/css/custommaker.css
/your_eshop/themes/default-bootstrap/css/customuser.css
/your_eshop/themes/default-bootstrap/css/ptmfix.css
/your_eshop/themes/default-bootstrap/images/design (create this folder and copy the files from the theme ZIP if found any)

upload

Done, after overwriting these files try to refresh your eshop. Make sure to check Advanced Parameters > Performace and turn off cache for a while.
